Serious Domain
Engagement
In order to bring our strengths fully to a project, it’s necessary to have a basic understanding of all of the pieces involved in a problem. We are highly engaged in that learning process and have built up a significant knowledge base with regard to biological concepts, genetic sequence data, microbial data and taxonomy, scientific data presentation and visualization…we like doing our homework !
Design Thinking
for Science
It may be a bit overused, but “design thinking” really is what we do in the VI-BIO Group at NCSA. Using domain under-standing, logic, brainstorming, imagination, “what if” scenarios, and our own knowledge of design best practices, we seek to help our research colleagues deliver both great science and great software experiences to the end users.
Bio-focused
Analytics
The challenges of genomic and medical research data are unique. We focus almost exclusively on this type of data and in evaluating and modifying algorithms best suited for these types of applications. Because of this focus, we have gained experience and developed successful approaches to these problems. Each project builds on the next to enable faster onboarding of each new project.
Deep Experience
in Design & Dev
Our group has had a lot of experience inside academia and out developing software. All of us, in fact, have worked together for many years. We like each other and that makes for great synergy and great work. We are mindful of software development best practices and are constantly working to improve our workflow processes from concept formation, to design, to coding and implementation.
to apply and develop visualization design and machine learning approaches to address global challenges in human health and wellness.
Vi-BIO
Visual Intelligence for Biology
We are developers, designers, and data scientists whose shared experience spans academia, fortune 100 companies, start-ups, government and defense work. Our broad experience allows us to tackle problems effectively and operate smoothly across many communities.
We are always eager to engage new analytics, information design, software design, and software development projects in the field of computational biology, genomics, and microbiome analysis.
